Added to the Crys16 board ahead of the 2024/25 season, London-based Charlie Evans has a huge passion for the Scarlets which is what motivated him to join the board. We sat down with Crys16’s newest board member to get to know him a little better…
What was your first Scarlets match?
Charlie Evans: “It was Llanelli v Llandybie in the Swalec Cup. Must have been 1993, 1994 maybe? I was really young at the time but I remember me and my cousins all heading down to watch the game. Everyone in the village was there hanging from posts, out of windows etc to watch the game. I remember meeting Garan Evans and Rupert Moon after the match and was hooked from then on.”
Who is your all-time favourite Scarlets player?
CE: “Wow, that’s a really tough question! I’d probably say Dafydd James with Matthew J Watkins closely behind. I did have a big soft spot for Salesi Finau and Martyn Madden as well.”
What’s your day job?
CE: “I work for a company called Keith Prowse, where I lead on marketing match day hospitality experiences at Allianz Stadium (formerly Twickenham). It’s fascinating work and I love working within the sport I care so much about.”
What’s your role on the Crys16 Board?
CE: “I’m the marketing representative on the board, so I work closely with colleagues to help increase the profile of Crys16 and grow it’s membership – hopefully everyone is enjoying the new monthly newsletter we started last year. I don’t get to the Parc as often as I like but when I do I try and speak with as many fans as possible to get their views, and online as well (you can find me on X as @iamcharlieevans).
“I am also in regular dialogue with the marketing team at the Scarlets, where using my professional experience I try to help support their activities and engage our fans.”
What’s your favourite thing about being a Scarlets fan?
CE: “When you’re at the Parc, under the lights and you see the ball being perfectly spun wide through the hands, you start to hear the gasps of excitement and expectation of the fans getting louder and louder – that’s really, really special.”
