On Monday 4 November, Crys16 with the support of the Scarlets hosted a Meet the New Players evening at Parc y Scarlets, giving members the chance to welcome our newest Scarlets to the club.
The audience laughed as new South African signing Marnus van der Merwe gave the night’s MC Dan Vaughan a tutorial on how to pronounce his name in full.
Fresh off the plane, new Australian prop Archer Holz expressed his thanks to those assembled for the warm welcome he had received since he arrived in Wales with several people stopping him in the street to wish him luck for the season.
Young full-back Ellis Mee, a recent signing from English Championship side Nottingham shared his story and how he has been managing his studies with a rugby career at the Scarlets.
Second row Max Douglas and back rower Jarrod Taylor shared their thoughts on the URC and how it compared with other competitions they had played in their native Australia and South Africa respectively as well as the tribalism they’ve experienced in the Welsh derbies they’ve played in already.
Crys16 sponsored player Macs Page was also in attendance, as well as his try-scoring exploits this season he also disclosed that he plays the drums and was a striker for the Swansea City academy – the Swan’s loss is most definitely the Scarlets gain!
“It was fantastic to give our members a chance to welcome these new players to the club”, said Crys16 board member Rhys Morgan.
“The Meet the New Players event is always a great opportunity for our members to engage directly with the players. I’m sure that they will all make huge contributions to the club for the rest of the season and beyond.”
Crys16 is grateful to everyone involved at the Scarlets who helped to set up this event.
