Crys16 board member and diversity and inclusion champion Sarah Greener was in attendance at both of the Scarlets’ recent matches on the other side of the Irish sea. Read on to find out how the Scarlets faithful made their way to Limerick and Belfast.
Thomand Park is considered to be one of the great European rugby grounds and it’s been on my bucket list to watch a game there.
The welcome to Thomand Park from the Munster fans was like nothing I had ever experienced before. They gave us gifts and made us feel at home. We heard stories of their iconic European Champions Cup away trips – one day those will be ours to make again! The view from the accessible wheelchair balcony was amazing and we really felt involved in the atmosphere and the game.
The start of the game was electrifying, flags flying while the stadium sung “stand up and fight”. It was no Yma O Hyd but it was an exciting start to the game. Despite an excellent try from Macs Page (proudly sponsored by Crys16), the result was disappointing. But our great Scarlets fans that did make the trip kept singing and the Turkish flags kept flying. Although the loss was disappointing, I loved my visit to Thomand Park and I can’t wait to go back.
The next stop was Belfast. The sun was shining and it was great to see so many Scarlets fans (again) at the ground. We shared sightseeing stories and tips with fellow Scarlets fans and even joined in singing of Yma O Hyd outside of the stadium. It was time to go in, and the wheelchair accessible balcony had another great view (not as good as at Parc Y Scarlets though!).
Despite the disappointing results at both Munster and Ulster, the away trips were so much fun and I can’t wait to go on the next one. As we come to the tail end of the season, our mighty Scarlets need us cheering them loud and proud from the terraces and stands at Parc Y Scarlets.
